When sorting songs by ARTISTS it appears that HomeDJ only sorts songs according to the ARTIST mp3 tag field. It has been my experience (using other apps) that sorting by the ALBUM ARTIST tag is a better way to handle sorting. Mainly because it helps keep things in better order. For example, a compilation CD that has many different artists is scattered all over the place when using only the ARTISTS tag. But if it is sorted by ALBUM ARTIST all of the songs appear neatly in one place.

Here is another example. Many hip-hop/rap CDs have different artists featured on each track. Again, sorting by the ARTIST tag causes these songs to be scattered everywhere. Now, I could change the tags so that they all have the same artist and thus would display neatly under one CD. But I don't want to do that because while I still want to know who is featured on what track; I don't want them to be sorted that way.

Anyway, this is all just my opinion and I hope I have made my point clear enough to understand. I would like to know the staff's thoughts on the matter.

I apologize for being unclear. I was afraid of that. What I meant is:

In the HomeDJ app, on the home screen (HomeDJ Wall)......you can choose from the tabs Artists, Albums, Songs, Genres, Playlists, etc...

When you select the Artists tab it of course displays a list of all available artists. The app creates this list by reading the ID3 metadata within each mp3 file. HomeDJ uses the ID3 tag-field ARTIST to get its information to list the artists names that are displayed.

And here is the point I am trying to make....There is another ID3 tag-field in MP3s that is called "ALBUM ARTIST". And I believe (for the reasons listed in my previous post) that it is superior to the "ARTIST" tag.

I am just talking about a different way to display artists in the app. It is a simple concept, but difficult for me to explain I guess. And I was wondering if the staff had ever thought about this subject.

I just found this app and it is awesome....I even purchased the pro version, which is a steal for $4. However this is the one area that I have noticed that does not work well. I have looked in the settings to find a way for the app to read album artist as opposed to artist....but no luck. I just added my soundtrack/compilation folder, and now everything is really messy because I have a lot of one off artists that I don't want to see. I was hoping to have my compilations combined. The topic above expresses the situation exactly. So....has this issue been fixed and I can't figure out how to change it, or is this still a "bug"?

I am still working on this. It will be implemented in a few updates later. Because it touches all parts of Muzecast it is taking longer.

Awesome, I'm about to buy and this is pretty much the only thing stopping me. I am planning on using MusicBrain's Picard application to clean up my library, and they document the tags they use. So for a soundtrack, they use "Various Artists" under "Album Artist" with the individuals under the "Artist" tag. I verified that with MP3Tag.

My dream example would be to see a single album (credited to VA) when I browse to the "Christmas" genre, but then when they're playing individually, the screen would show the song artist.

MusicBrain also populates "albumartistsort" and "artistsort", which might be useful in the selection portions.
