ffmpeg has been burning all of one of my cores (dual core chip so that's 50% CPU) for over 15 hours straight. When I try to kill the process or decrease the priority, task manager returns "The handle is invalid". I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. I have even tried to reboot the machine, and as soon as it comes up, ffmpeg starts again (HomeDJ is set to run on system startup). There are no clients streaming anything right now.

Is this a known issue? Any way to turn off ffmpeg? As far as I'm aware, I don't have any other type of file than MP3, and I set the stream settings for all my clients to "original" (no re-coding required).

I looked this morning and it has stopped. I guess it was performing some useful task, but it took a long time. Are there any background tasks that would usually call for ffmpeg?

There are 3 tasks which are using ffmpeg during Folder Scan:
1. Generating 25 seconds Preview files.
2. Analyzing peak volume for each song in your library to make sure they all are played at the same volume (Replay Gain).
3. Song fingerprint generation to generate unique fingerprint for a song to be recognized as mixable song. Finger print generation only analyzing 135 seconds of each song.

In the next release I will reduce number of threads used for peak volume analysis to 1 thread. It will take longer, but it will not take too much of CPU.

O.K..thanks, that probably explains it...I added about 200 songs recently, and I guess it hadn't done the analysis on them yet. The machine is my file-server and runs 24x7, so HomeDJ is never stopped until I reboot, which only happens when Windows update forces me to.

I don't think number of threads is an issue, but maybe it would be good if the ffmpeg process just ran at an ultra-low priority, so it only used CPU when nothing else was running.

Just posted new version of HomeDJ Server 4.1.4.

All background processes will run on LOW priority.
If computer is in use by something else other than HomeDJ, Background processes will be slow down or paused for a period of time CPU needs to perform other work.
Thank you.

Wow, that was a fast turnaround. Thanks for the change; it just re-iterates that HomeDJ is absolutely the best audio streamer for Android, not just because it reliably streams without pausing, and has some great features, but also because the support for the product is excellent. Thanks again.
