Hi,
A friend is having difficulties installing both the server and the app.
On the server pc he is running AVG antivirus which detects and removes C:\HomeDJ\genpuid.exe
On the phone he uses "Lookout Mobile Security" and is getting a "Riskware Alert" for com.vorlan.homedj.
See below for screen shots.

Can you explain why this is?
Thanks

Is this for the latest HomeDJ Player 3.7.3?
Genpuid alert - not sure why this is happening. I guess it does not like "gen" part in the file name, because it thinks it is a key generator.

I will try to contact both antiviruses companies to see why they are reporting it.
Thank you.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition normally scans most of your computer's folders for viruses, spyware and rootkits. Since scanning your entire computer can take a long time if you have a large hard drive, AVG gives you the option to add specific folders and files to its exceptions list to prevent the program from scanning those folders. AVG also lets you specify files that the program might view as suspicious but are actually not harmful.

This comment from others who had issues with AVG:

The genpuid.exe changes location (path) all the time on you when AVG sees it
and warns you? Run Replay Music again and do a recording with it. Wait and see
what the AVG warning is and copy the location and path down like I told you.
That warning box should give you a choice to let it through. Also this maybe a
false positive catch by AVG. AVG thinks it is malware but it is not. Check AVG
if it has a list for this.

Thank you.

I contacted Lockout Android security software development team. Let's see if they will remove my application from the list.
Thank you.

Thanks for your quick replies.
As you point out it is possible to create an exception rule for genpui.exe, which would solve the problem on the server side, although it would be interesting to know why AVG is treating it as a threat.

More importantly is a solution for Lookout.
My friend is running Android Jellybean 4.1 and HomeDJ 3.7.3

It's worth noting that I too am running Lookout and do not get the "Riskware Alert" for com.vorlan.homedj

Hi, a newbie to this forum, I am 'the friend' referred to above. I did indeed do a full scan not long ago, but the AVG messages were pop-ups that arose when I was using a remote connection playing some music through the app and not detected during the scan.

genpuid.exe is executed only once during FolderScan at very end when scan is complete. Probably you got this popup because Folder Scan was still running and was finishing up generating Unique identifiers using genpuid.exe.

I can remove this program from installation, but in that case unique ids will not be generated. Those ids are not involved in any music mixing, but could be useful in a future for automatic song recognition, when implemented.

I would need a few days of testing to make sure everything is working as expected without genpuid present.

Lockout security on the other hand probably put HomeDJ in the list because I had Leadbolt SDK before and Lockout just do not like it, because this SDK has option to push notifications to the phone. I am not using Notifications nor SDK anymore, but probably because HomeDJ was published with this SDK in the past Lockout decided to place it in the Risk list. I hope Lockout DEV will respond to me and will take actions to remove it from the list.
Thank you.

Does the latest update 3.7.4 of HomeDJ Player solved Lockout "Riskware" popup?
Thank you.

The popup didn't come up all the time so no guarantee but, so far, so good.
