It seems I am having an issue with sorting folders by date added.

When I go into my folders on my server I am looking at both "Date Modified" and/or "Date Created" to see the newest folders and I can easily see the newest folders. From the Muzecast app I go into the folders and choose "Date Added" as the sort order, they are not sorted correctly by either date.

Does the "Date Added" sort order just look at tracks or will it also look at folders. Folders do not seem to be sorted correctly. It's kind of useless for tracks since they will almost always have the same time and date.

Thanks

Were you able to find the issue?

It would be nice to see what new music has been added to the library. I forget sometimes and this could tell you.

My folder structure as \Genre\Artist\Album,

I add them an album at a time and each album is in it's own folder.

So if I browse folders in the app it could tell me which was newer if I could actually sort by 'Date Added' in descending order (newest first)

Thanks

Folder order by Date Added issue has been fixed. You metadata is update. Please check to see if folders are displayed in order you were expecting.

If anyone else experience the same issue before, please re-run Folder Scan, and it will fix the issue.

Ok, I updated the server and the app to the latest, re-scanned and folders are still not sorted correctly by 'date created' or 'date modified '.

Should I delete the db and re-create?

Please give me a sample of a few songs from each Album you see incorrectly sorted. I will check the data.

Thank you.

Ah, I think that's where the confusion lies. I am not looking at songs/tracks. I am ONLY looking at folders. When I add music to my collection, It is one folder at a time and that folder will have all the songs for one album. The songs in that folder all have the same date/time so I don't need to sort them by date, only track number or name. The folders however will have different dates because I add them at different times.

I see. Folder scan generates new date per file and not per folder. When new file appears in a folder, that date when it appeared is recorded as date added. Latest change what was done is update folder create date based on max value of create date of any file below this folder recursively.
For example you added a song A into a folder FolderA, which is subfolder of Genre Rock. When you browse folders, Genre Rock will be top most. When you drill down to genre Rock, folderA will be topmost, and when you drill down into FolderA, song A will be top most.

The only difference could be that file itself create date could be older, if it was moved from another folder. That is what I want to check with samples I asked. (I need just path to songs, not songs itself).

All changes are done on Muzecast server, and you do not have to re-install app or Streaming Server on your computer.
Thank you.

OK, It's not working like I expect because you create and keep track of your own date added and you don't get it from the OS.

You could use the 'Date Modified' attribute for the folder and would show which folders have had additions to them. The OS (Windows) already updates for you. This is of course for the folder itself. When you copy a file into that folder, windows will automatically update this date. This is not the same as 'Date Added' as it states in your app since I could also delete a file from the folder and the date modified would still be updated.

I see where you're logic is and it works fine for individual songs but not so much for folders. It works sometimes and only when I add something new but not when I move files around.

I have some screen shots but don't see a way to attach so I will explain it.

On my server I have one main folder called "Music" and under that I have the Genres in their own folder plus another folder called 'Recently Added'. I have recently (about a week ago) added to this folder. This should show up on the top when I sort by Date Added but it doesn't. Another folder called 'Rock' shows up at the top and I haven't added anything to that folder recently.

Muzecast stores file date and not folder date.

It looks like there were 4 files added to the library into folder: **** Breathes on 6/25 plus one file on the same date into another folder.
A few files added to the library on 6/15 11:31 into Dance - Techno folder
And Recently Added folder songs were added on 6/15 11:30
Therefore Recently added folder might appear 3rd or 4th in the list.

**** - just to mask full path...
Thank you.

I added some folders and files only to 'Recently Added' folder on 06/15. Whether something was added to the library in other folders I do not know about since the app may be doing something I am not aware of. That is the only folder I add new music to, hence the name.

Now I'm confused.

It's OK, I'll find a way to work around it. Thanks

I did a new scan last night. I am absolutely sure I did not do anything with those 5 songs.

As I stated, The only thing I did do was to add some folders/files to the 'Recently Added Folder' and that was it.

If you want me to start a new scan let me know.

Did you use any Windows player to play these songs on your computer? Some players might download artwork for these songs and update song's tags with this artwork, therefor changing these songs timestamp.
Thank you.

Taking the "***** Breathes" folder as an example, I have not played these songs at all. I looked at them in windows and they have dates from 2014. By the way there are only two files in this folder. What are you showing?

This is what I show in Windows. I have not played or done anything with these songs.

Windows itself keeps a bunch of different dates but created/modified are the two main ones and it's weird with these files and who knows which others?

The created dates are actually later than the modified but they are not from 2018

BUT, I took a closer look at the files and they are all corrupted files, they will not play at all, I will list the dates and file size.

Info as follows for Date Created, Date Modified and (File Size)

*** From The Fall (Disc 1]\Gina.mp3 02/22/2014, 07/31/2013 (2K)
*** Prison\Torn.mp3 02/21/2014, 01/21/2014 (5K)
*** Squares\Blank.m4a 02/22/2014, 07/31/2013 (51K)
*** Breathes\Taste.mp3 02/22/2014, 07/31/2013 (2K)
*** Tour (GG320K)\The Fool On The Hill.mp3 02/22/2014, 09/07/2014 (5K)

So that should at least provide a clue. I have not played these files because I can't. They are corrupted.

Just wondering, how do you detect a change? It can't be from the dates in the OS, they are not new.
