I've got everything installed and it all seems to work...except when I select a song, nothing happens. The buttons indicate it should be playing (I can pause) but the timer doesn't track any progress through the song, and when I hit the play button again it seems to "break" the button: it doesn't do anything after that. Also, I'm unable to open the equalizer, but maybe it's because I'm using the free version? I really like what I've gotten to work so far, I hope this can be resolved! Of course, my volume is up, I have the latest version (3.6.0 desktop, 3.9.6 droid), I checked the error log and it's empty, and both my phone and computer are more than equipped to handle anything I throw at them. :) Thanks in advance for any help!

Please check Errors on your Home Computer:
1. Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer.
2. Once opened Expand Windows Logs->Application;
3. Check if there are any errors reported by HomeDJ Server.

If there are errors, could you report these errors?

Thank you.

Wow, yes! There appears to be an error for each song I attempted to play, and some I didn't. I hit play on a couple of full albums so there are a ton of error messages to go through! A bunch of them are "failed to find artwork" errors, here's an example of one of the others:

Phew! Here's another:

The most important error is this:

Error: The device is not ready.

Are your songs located on External Drive?
Please check if you can access it. If you can access it, check permissions on your External Drive.
To check permissions:
1. Right mouse click on this drive letter;
2. Select "Security" tab;
3. Check if "Group and user names" box has account called "SYSTEM";
4. If this account is missing click "Edit" button;
5. On the next window click "Add" button;
6. On the next window type SYSTEM in the "Enter the object names to select" box;
7. Click "Check names" button;
8. SYSTEM should become underlined;
9. Click "OK";
10 Click check box "Allow" - "Full control" to select all "Allow" items for you operating system to access
11. Click "OK" button;
12. Click "OK" button.

Now you OS can access your files.
Thank you.

Indeed, it is an external drive! I followed your instructions and added the system group and allowed full control ("special permissions" was greyed out) but I'm still getting "device not ready" errors. I had my husband try it out on his phone and he has the same issues. I tried reinstalling the app but still no equalizer and throws the same errors. I also took a look at one of the mp3's and the system permissions are there like I set them, so I know that's not it. Rather odd! (By the way, thank you for all your help!)

edit: I tried it with songs on the c: drive, just to rule out the possiblity of the external causing the problem, but I still get the same"device not ready" errors.

Database records still shows that you have files located on G: drive. Did you run Folder scan when you added files on C: drive and removed folders from G: drive?

What also might happening that your G: drive is visible when you logged in into Windows, but might be a completely different drive letter for SYSTEM account.
What you can do in that case:
1. If you have all your music on G: drive located under a single root folder, for example "Music", share this folder.
2. Now, instead of adding folder from G: drive, add folder using this share;
3. Provide Windows logon user name and password when prompted (this information is for internal and not shared anywhere)

Here is example:
I have music files located on G:\My Music. I right mouse click on My Music folder and selected "Share with->Specifig people". I was prompted with windows: "Choose people to share with". I see my windows user name in the list and I pick it. The other alternative, I do not see my windows user name in the list, then I type if and click Add button. I can pick either Read or Read/Write access. My computer name is named: MY-DESKTOP. I can lookup my computer name by opening System icon in Control Panel. Once Sharing window is complete I could access my files not just going into G:\My Music, but also going into \\MY-DESKTOP\My Music. Now I open HomeDJ Configurator and Select tab "Music Folders". I click add folder and type in Address bar: \\MY-DESKTOP. It will show shared folders I have and there should be shared folder called: "My Music". I double click that folder and click OK. I am prompted with Logon Dialog. For example my Windows user name is Jhon, and password: password123, then I enter this information in this dialog. This is not user name and password you registered HomeDJ with. It is your Windows credentials. HomeDJ will try to login using this information to validate that user name and password are OK. If it is OK, I see new item in HomeDJ Configurator "Folder List". I remove all other folders from that list except the one I just added. I click "Start Scan" button. In about 5-10 minutes change should be synchronized with my Android device. The error should not appear anymore.

In future to avoid this kind of issues, I am planning to add another mode to run HomeDJ - only when User Logged on, like Drop Box. In that case HomeDJ will run only when you are logged on to your computer. But this can be done the other way - a little bit more advanced. Here is another way:
To resolve issues when HomeDJ failing to access drives which personalized under specific window user you can change Logon information for HomeDJ Service. To do that:
1. Open Services list by going into Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services;
2. Locate HomeDJ Service in the list;
3. Open properties of HomeDJ Service;
4. Select Log On tag;
5. Select radio button "This account";
6. Enter you windows user name and password;
7. Click OK until properties dialog is closed;
8. Restart HomeDJ Service;

No it will run not under SYSTEM account, but under your user name. BTW going this way to change user name to run service under, you do not have to create shared folder as I described above.

Thank you.

Thanks to your help, I got it working! It's odd that the error messages state that the files were on the G: drive, as that's my cd/dvd drive! The files were actually on my F: drive. After moving some files to the C: drive to test, I noticed on the error log that it was still trying to read from the G: drive...weird! They were the exact same files I was testing before, so maybe some cached data was left over? That was my thought, so I made a new folder with copies of the files (instead of moving the files) and tried that and it worked like a charm! I also set the folder to share with-> everyone, but that alone didn't do it. Anyway, I've been using the program for the last couple days and it's working great! Thank you so much for all your help; as soon as I get paid I will be purchasing the full version for myself and my husband, and telling anyone who will listen how awesome HomeDJ is! Best customer support ever! Thanks again!
