Google made some change to the way sd cards are accessed in KitKat, and as a result HomeDJ does not appear to be able to see the sd card any more. The net result is that "Settings -> Download and Cache -> Location" does not show the sd card, and all the downloads and cached tracks are clogging up valuable space on the main device storage.

It looks like HomeDJ needs to be fixed for KitKat, which seems to require having it's own self-contained HomeDJ directory on the SD card.

What device do you have? I tried some tablets running KitKat and was not able to reproduce this issue. I will try to emulate device with dual sd card. I think issue KitKat has is with External SD Card. I will let you know when I will be able to fix that, and it will be fixed.
Thank you.

I have a Galaxy S4, 16 Gig main memory and a 32 Gig SD card inserted in the back. The sd card doesn't come with the device, and I needed to purchase and insert it myself, so I guess this counts as "external". As you would expect, it is formatted using FAT32, and can be taken out and read in most other systems (e.g. early Windows OS). I have noticed issues with some other apps too (ES File Explorer can see the SD card but can no longer write to it, for example).

The SD card is definitely mounted and formatted correctly, and is visible and writable in a number of Google system, and Samsung pre-installed apps. According to several web pages, this is a known change in KitKat. Apps now need:

1) Specific privilege to write to the SD card (seems like HomeDJ has this)

2) Can only write to a specific application directory (not sure exactly how this gets created or determined).

Correct, KitKat changed things about accessing SDCard.
Permissions will not help, because those permissions are only for System applications, such as Google, or Samsung apps. 3rd party application left out of this and this kind of application can write only in one location on SDCard, which will be cleared, once this application is uninstalled.

This is punch in the head for developers from Google.

Once I make changes and properly test it on real devices, which runs legit KitKat and not like CM or any other OS, I will post this fix.
Thank you.

O.K...thanks.

Great app by the way, lots of really nice features, and most importantly it streams really well without any freezing, even with black spots and cell tower switching....Nice job, keep up the good work

Thank you.

Latest version of HomeDJ Streamer/Player 4.2.0 should work with External SD Card on KitKat. Please check if it is working on your device.

If there still an issue, please let me know.
Thank you.

I updated, and it has fixed the problem. The new version automatically switched the download and cache location to the SD card after it recognized that I had one.

New cache location is /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.vorlan.homedj/files/Music/HomeDJ.

Thanks for the quick fix.

I just installed version 4.2.3 on I9300 running OMNI 4.4.2 and external SD is not seen by the app.
is this an issue related to custom roms ?

It might be because of Custom ROM. I will post a fix which will used legacy and KitKat way to recognize external SD Card.
Thank you.

Just posted new version 4.3.1. It should fix the issue with SD Card. It is not a problem with Custom ROM.
Thank you.
